Independent Living Grant gives much needed lift!

Pembrokeshire pensioner has been the first person to benefit from Care & Repair's new Independent Living Grant by receiving the funds to pay for a new stairlift. The Neyland man, unable to manage the stairs and without money to pay for a stairlift, had the grant approved and stairlift fitted in a matter of weeks.

The grant has been awarded by the Welsh Government to Care & Repair Agencies throughout Wales, enabling them to assist people in urgent need of disabled facilities and other adaptations necessary to keep them living independently in their homes.

The purpose of the grant is to provide prompt funding for urgent home adaptations, particularly where they are needed to enable people to be discharged from hospital, to prevent accidents happening, or to boost their independence. With little of the 'red tape' normally associated with grants, the Independent Living Grant aims to provide facilities quickly where they are most needed.

A Pembroke woman suffering with severe arthritis has also benefited from a new heating system before the Welsh winter sets in, as well as a number of other people who have had disabled bathrooms and disabled access works.
