New Services Delivered

West Wales Care & Repair has been able to offer 2 new services to its customers this year - a Home Maintenance Service and Home Fire Safety Checks. Its Home Maintenance Service has been operating since April and responds to customer requests for reasonably priced and reliable tradesman to carry out smaller jobs in the home. The service will consider most requests and has already assisted many older people with range of carpentry work and decorating in the county.

West Wales Care & Repair has also strengthened its links with the local Fire Service and is now able to offer Home Fire Safety checks to its customers. Staff have been trained by the West Wales Fire Service to give advice and guidance on fire safety issues in the home and are able to check and fit smoke detectors where required. The introduction of the service alleviates demand on the Fire Services locally, but also gives West Wales Care & Repair the ability to directly support its own customers asking for fire safety checks.

Combined effort for Combi-Boiler!

West Wales Care & Repair has recently assisted a woman living in Pembroke Dock to replace her broken boiler, by leading a collaborative effort to pay for the work involving a number of charitable organisations.

Mrs Baker contacted West Wales Care & Repair when her boiler stopped providing hot water. Although the heating was still working the defective boiler meant that her disabled daughter, for whom showering is a slow and difficult process, was unable to use her specially adapted shower as the water was running cold. The household could not afford the repairs and their previous grant applications had been rejected because the radiators were still operating.

Caseworkers brought this to the attention of a number of Wales-based and national charities in an attempt to get benevolent funding for Mrs Baker, eventually raising nearly two thousand pounds with the help of the Shine Charity, N-Power's Health through Warmth Grant, the Eco Centre Wales and West Wales Care & Repair's own hardship fund.

Mrs Baker is delighted with the help she has received and has said that her daughter is able to enjoy a hot shower again, essential to her wellbeing. If you would like to know more about charitable funding please contact us.
